Test Us at Home

Help us learn more about different ways to test for COVID-19 at home!

With support from the National Institutes of Health Rapid Acceleration of Diagnostics (RADxSM) initiative.

What is the Test Us At Home study about?

Researchers are studying serial testing for COVID-19 with over-the-counter tests and comparing the over-the-counter tests with standard PCR COVID-19 tests.

  • Serial testing is when the same person uses the tests several times over a certain number of days.
  • Over-the-counter tests are ones that individuals can do themselves at home without a prescription and give results in 15 minutes.

How does it work?

Eligible participants will:

  • Download and use an app on a smart phone or device to answer some questions about themselves and to help them use the COVID-19 tests at home.
  • Receive all instructions and COVID-19 tests in the mail.
  • Take two different types of COVID-19 tests over the course of 10 to 15 days, answer some questions about themselves and if they have symptoms, and tell us through the app what the result of the at home tests are.
    • One of these tests will be an over-the-counter test that is used at home and the participant will read the results.
    • The other test is a PCR test that participants will mail to the laboratory to be tested.

How can people help?

Participants can help by seeing if they are eligible to be a part of the study by downloading the MyDataHelps app and clicking on “How to Participate in Test Us At Home” below. In order to be eligible, participants must:

  • Own and be able to use a smartphone application as part of the study.
  • Be age 2 years old or older.

Will participants get the test results?

Participants will be asked to take two different types of COVID-19 over the course of 10 to 15 days.

  • Participants will take one of the tests at home and will be able to read the results in 15 minutes.
  • Another sample will need to be mailed back to the laboratory for testing. Participants will receive these results 2-5 days after mailing in the sample.

How does this research help participants and others?

  • Participants will receive COVID-19 tests at no cost and will receive compensation for completing all required study activities.
  • Researchers will:
    • Learn more about how to use different tests to detect COVID-19.
    • Learn more about which tests to use and how often to test people.
